We wish we could say that it was the first time Sasha Pieterse had ever heard one random body-shaming comment, but unfortunately, it's something that the star has had to deal with for quite some time now. The Pretty Little Liars actress took to Instagram to share a really heartfelt message about why picking on someone is never okay – especially when it's about something as personal as their weight.
In her note, Sasha explained that she's always been conscious about her weight, but even more so when she recently started needing to take medication for a hormone imbalance.
"People were actually angry that I gained weight," she wrote. "I was being (and still am) called names, made fun of, the (unfortunate) usual, but it wasn't until people started asking and assuming I was pregnant that I decided to say something. I had at that point found out that I had a really bad hormone imbalance and decided to share the news publicly. I made it a point to mention that I am and will always be 'under construction'."
Sasha admitted that she can't say she's surprised about getting so much weight-hate from her female friends, but she's really over the body-bashing.
"Not that I was surprised, but it disturbed me that so many females were quick to tear me down on a subject that we all struggle with," she wrote. "We've all heard our parents tell us to treat people the way you want to be treated, but I think often we don't treat ourselves the way we should be treated. I decided at that point to my love myself the way I am right now."
We're so proud of Sasha for publicly speaking out this issue, because no one should ever feel like they're under a constant pressure to either look a certain way or be made fun of.
