No one should ever have to worry about the color or tone of their skin, but celebs like Raven-Symoné have expressed that sometimes it's nearly impossible not to feel the pressure to look a certain way – especially when you're in the public eye. In an interview for the upcoming documentary, Light Girls, the actress said that when she was on That's So Raven as a teenager, she went way overboard on dangerous tanning sessions while trying to maintain a darker complexion.
“When I had my own show, I used to tan three or four times a week in a tanning bed to get darker,” Raven revealed, admitting she felt like she needed to be darker for the sake of her character.
It's not uncommon for actresses to feel the pressure to look different to snag a role: whether it's skinnier, taller, younger, or prettier, everyone has different ideas of beauty and insecurities. As it turns out, Raven didn't really need to be tan to play her role fabulously, and people on set with her let her know it.
"It's funny, one of the lighting guys came up -- I love him to death; I love him, oh my goodness -- he goes, 'Raven, I need you to stop tanning. You're getting too dark, and we have to re-light the whole entire show,'" she said. "I was like, 'Sorry. I was just trying to be pretty.'"
As Raven Baxter would say, she was always perfect just the way she was!
