Tonight's the big night: the brand new Disney Channel series Andi Mack officially premieres on the network. Fans are already obsessed with the down-to-earth and relatable show thanks to early sneak peeks Disney has shared – and the cast of the show shares all of our sentiments. TWIST recently chatted with actress Peyton Elizabeth Lee, who plays the title character Andi Mack, and got her thoughts on how she relates to her onscreen character.
"I think I relate to Andi," Peyton tells us exclusively. "I think any preteen or teenager can relate to Andi, in a way that they are sort of finding out who they want to be and really figuring out kind of what decisions they want to make that will impact their lives. And I think that is a really big thing becoming a teenager."
It turns out that Peyton has a lot in common with her character, and hopes that other kids will see themselves in this role as well.
"You know, and I'm 12 going on 13 and Andi is as well, and I think that that is something every teenager/preteen feels like," Peyton adds. "I think Andi and I have a lot of things in common. I think we’re both sort of bubbly at times, but we’re also quiet at other times. And I think that we’re both creative, you know, in different ways. She’s more artistic in crafts and stuff like that, and acting is also an art. So I think that’s definitely a way that we are related and connected."
"I also think that she’s smart, she loves school and she has her friends. And you know, I friends are really important to her and so is her family," she shares. "And I think that’s something that we also have in common. We both have extremely supportive families and friends that surrounds us, to support us on this journey."
