Are there any special traditions that your family follows that have been passed down for generations? Maybe you have a specific food for big holidays, or perhaps there are special stories your grandparents love repeating for the kids in the room? Well, Olivia Rodrigo is sharing a few of her own family's own unique history.
In celebration of Asian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the Bizaardvark actress filmed a video for Disney Channel where she opens up about how her heritage has made her who she is today.
"Every family has a story: how did we get here? Who came before me? What is my family's history?" Olivia shares in her video. "My heritage is a part of who I am. I'm part Filipina: on my dad's side of the family, my Filipino heritage comes from my great-grandfather."
"He came [to America] on a boat from the Philippines when he was just a teenager," Olivia says about her great-grandpa. "Can you imagine moving to a whole new country all by yourself?"
The actress says that she definitely notices the Filipino influence in her life today – especially when delicious meals are concerned!
"Some traditions that have carried over into my generation are, we actually make Filipino food," Olivia explains. "My great-grandpa had a garden, and he was also a really good cook. So he would make lumpia, which are kind of like Filipino egg rolls. They're really yummy."
"I definitely have a lot of traits that I think I've inherited from my family members," Olivia adds. "My parents, they've taught me how to be kind, and respectful, and to always do my thing."
