We're still not completely over the fact that Dog with a Blog recently aired its finale episode on Disney Channel. The characters on that show grew up and changed so much over the course of three seasons – but so did the real-life actors! When we caught up with LJ Benet, who played Karl Fink on the show, he opened up about what the journey was like.
"It's unbelievable how much everyone grew up on that set," he shares with TWIST. "I remember [when we started] starting that they knew height was going to be an issue, because I was supposed to be the same grade as G [Hannelius]' character when they originally cast me, and they changed it to be like we were both in the same school, rather than the same grade because I was so much taller than her and her friends. We came back for the second season and I was like 5'9" compared to when I was like 5'5" and a little taller than her, I sort of Yao Ming-ed over her, and it was really funny."
"In the family room [on set], they marked everyone's height. Blake [Michael], Francesca [Capaldi] and G's at the beginning of the series and they took a picture next to it when the series ended, and they were just like a foot taller," LJ dishes." It was a really cute moment.
"Everyone matured mentally when we were on set. Everyone's patience has grown, especially on that set, I would say, [dealing with working with a dog]. It's been a crazy ride," LJ tells us. "Genuinely, everyone got to know one another. I became like this cousin to a little family, it was really nice. I thought it was really great what they did to Karl. At first, he was this evil next-door neighbor, that's how we described him, and now he's not that evil anymore, he's kind of Avery's best friend, but they get into little kerfuffles. But like, who doesn't when you're best friends with someone? He's grown so much with that family." How sweet!
