No one could ever deny that Liam Payne and Zayn Malik always had a strong friendship, but Liam just proved that the bond can't melt away simply because Zayn's not in One Direction anymore. In a new interview with BBC Radio 1, the singer admitted that he understands why Zayn's heart led him to go solo – and he even congratulated him on his new record deal.
"[Zayn]'s off doing his own thing at the moment which is nice for him. But we've all kind of banded together, and I feel like we're stronger than ever now actually, which is strange, but it's worked out very nicely for everybody," Liam shared. "Obviously he's happy, my congratulations to him on his new record deal and stuff, so you know, it's cool. Loads of music, loads of love."
Liam also shared that he couldn't imagine there not being anything but love in this situation. "There definitely is [love there]. There's too much history for there not to be love, to be fair, it's just one of those sort of things, isn't it?" he continued. "If your heart's not into something, you can't just carry on doing it because, you know, it's like fame and stuff, you have to go do what you want to do. Obviously, you know, One Direction was never, you know, Zayn's sort of music, so he always wanted to expand somewhere outside."
Our hearts are breaking for all kinds of reasons, but we're so relieved to hear that the guys retain their close friendships and understand what's best for one another – even if we're a little bit slow when it comes to processing and coming to terms with their decisions.
