Unfortunately, there's a constant pressure for stars in the public eye to look a certain way – especially in the entertainment industry. Singer JoJo revealed in a shocking new interview that she once felt so pressured to lose weight quickly by her team that she resorted to drastic and unhealthy measures – for fear of not being able to release her music.
"Here's something that I agreed to do that ended up messing with me psychologically," the singer told PopCrush. "I was under a lot of pressure with a company I was at previously and they wanted me to lose weight fast. So they got me with a nutritionist and had me, like, on all these supplements, and I was injecting myself — this is a common thing 'the girls' do all the way — it makes your body only need certain calories, so I ate 500 calories a day. It was the most unhealthy thing I've ever done."
JoJo shared that she eventually gained all of the lost weight back, but she felt like she had caved to the pressures of what others wanted instead of doing what was best for herself. "I felt like, 'If I don't do this, my album won't come out.' Which it didn't! So it's not like it even worked!" she said.
It's so inspiring that she's speaking out against this kind of dangerous behavior, asserting that nothing about treating yourself this badly is worth it.
"I listen to other people's opinions. Listening and following are different things. I think listening and showing respect to people you respect . . . it works for me," she shared. "What you think about yourself and the decisions you make is what's most important."
