I have never shaved my legs before but now that summer's here, I'm embarrassed about my leg hair. It's not very dark or anything but my friends notice and my mom says I'm too young to start shaving but I don't want to be stuck wearing pants all summer. - Annaleigh, 12
This is a tough one and I totally agree with you – pants in the summer can get sticky and hot against your legs!
It’s important to know that everyone has leg hair. Your friends may not have hit this stage in their lives yet where they’ve started growing hair on their legs. Or, maybe some have even started shaving already. There are also people out there that decide never to shave their legs at all, which is awesome too. If you really are embarrassed about this, you have a couple of options.
First of all, I would sit down with your mom and tell her what has been going on. Maybe she doesn’t know just how strongly you feel about shaving or that your friends have noticed the hair. When she does understand, she will be a great source to go to if you need some assistance the first time. She can help you make sure you get a nice, close shave and don’t miss any spots!
There are also tons of products out there to help girls start shaving their legs who never have before. Sometimes it’s easier to use a shave gel rather than soap when you first get started. It will help the process go much more smoothly. Always use warm water against your skin before and after you have the put the shave gel on. Also, make sure to get a razor that is just for women with a rounded head that can bend back and forth and a curvy handle. This design will make it easier to get into those hard to reach corners like around your ankles and the back of your knees. One important tip: never share razors with anyone else – even your close friends!
