Cameron Dallas may have emerged victorious and taken home a surfboard at the 2016 Teen Choice Awards last night, but not all fans are celebrating with him. During the show's live telecast, the social media star made what he's calling a "joke" about actress Jessica Alba, and a lot of fans just aren't having it.
He was asked if he'd rather share a toothbrush with Jessica or Justin Timberlake, and he responded, "I would honestly choose Justin Timberlake's just because I don't know where Jessica's been."
Here's a video of the moment:
Tons of fans took to Twitter to call Cameron out for the tasteless comment, saying it gave off inappropriate slut-shaming vibes.
Jessica Alba is always so classy and beautiful💕 I don't know where Cameron Dallas got that slut-shaming comment from?— CONGRATS MADDIE (@magicalzieglers) August 1, 2016
Vine star Cameron Dallas is about to learn an important lesson about slut shaming people on live TV. #TeenChoiceAwards— Chris E. Hayner (@ChrisHayner) August 1, 2016
Cameron tweeted from his own account to say that he was only joking around, and loves Jessica.
Yo it was literally a joke, I love @jessicaalba and would share a toothbrush with her till I die lol— Cameron Dallas (@camerondallas) August 1, 2016
Really thankful for the message @jessicaalba spoke tonight, that's what we should focus on— Cameron Dallas (@camerondallas) August 1, 2016
During the show, Jessica participated in a very moving #StopTheViolence segment, which is what Cam is referring to when he says we should focus on what she spoke about. But it's also important that fans are letting him know that his joke wasn't funny or okay – whether he intended to share that message or not.
