Our hearts shattered into a million little pieces yesterday when Vanessa Hudgens announced the news that her dad Greg had passed away from cancer just hours before she was set to appear in the Grease: Live TV event last night. Not only did the actress decide to go through with her performance despite the heartbreaking news – she shared on Twitter that she was dedicating her work to her father, and then proceeded to give one of her best performances ever as the Pink Ladies' Rizzo.
I am so sad to say that last night my daddy, Greg passed away from stage 4 cancer. Thank you to everyone who kept him in your prayers.— Vanessa Hudgens (@VanessaHudgens) January 31, 2016
Well, the show itself decided to make the dedication official, and they honored Greg by putting his name in the end credits of the show. Vanessa's sister Stella Hudgens Instagrammed a screenshot of the TV paused on the message "In loving memory of Greg Hudgens."
"Wow, #GreaseLive was unbelievably amazing. So proud of everyone who made it possible! So so proud of Vanessa. You shine so bright. I know daddy is smiling down on you," Stella wrote on Instagram.
That is so sweet, and a powerful way to remember that the Grease cast really is a family.
