Gemma Styles has quite the following on her various social media accounts. She does post some cool pics on Instagram and writes funny tweets, but a vast amount of her followers come from the fact that her brother, Harry Styles, happens to be a member of One Direction, one of the biggest bands in the world. She appreciates the support she gets from Directioners, but there are some "online trolls" as she calls them out there who aren't always so nice.
"From comments about my weight, clothes and friends, there have been a lot of times I’ve received messages that merit an eyebrow raise, " Gemma revealed. "A lot are silly and I feel like I’ve been pretty good at brushing them off but, at the same time, I’m quite an insecure person – and when people touch on things you already think about yourself, it stays with you.
It's never an easy thing to deal with people criticizing every aspect of your life, and Gemma has since learned that what works best for her is to not retaliate.
"I do feel like I’ve got better at dealing with it over the past few years. I certainly haven’t always handled things perfectly," she wrote. "It’s really hard to read certain comments and refrain from responding, especially when people are painting me as somebody I’m just not but generally, now, I don’t like to."
Gemma chooses to take the high road and doesn't give in to the urge to respond back to haters in order for her to maintain her own peace, which takes a lot of strength to do. She also cited The Cybersmile Foundation as being an organization that really helped her figure out how to deal with cyberbullying and why it's important to raise awareness to this issue. She is doing some big things and helping out a lot of people in the process.
