If you watched even a moment of the 2016 Rio Olympics, you know that Gabby Douglas and the rest of Team USA gymnastics absolutely slayed. They also happened to inspire us with their awesome makeup ideas. We caught up with the fierce medal-winning athlete and Venus Razors ambassador and asked her to spill her all-time favorite products and confidence-boosting tips. Check out our exclusive Q & A below.
TWIST: Congrats on the Olympics, you guys were amazing! We love that you guys seem to love experimenting with fun makeup products! How old were you when you first started experiment with makeup?
Gabby Douglas: I remember when I got into my mom’s makeup bag when I was 3 years old and I got into so much trouble! I was instantly drawn to the lipstick. I was like, “Oh, lipstick!” I basically ruined her favorite color because I put it all over my face and I all over my teddy bear’s face. She was so upset.
TWIST: Speaking of lipstick, everyone loved your brown lipstick color at the Olympics! What was it called?
GD: It’s actually in my makeup bag upstairs right now! It’s a COVERGIRL shade. It’s from the Queen Collection and is called Royal Plum!
TWIST: Any tips when it comes to choosing lip shades?
GD: I love choosing colors based on what I’m wearing! I wore the brown shade because I liked how it looked with my leotard because it had a reddish brown tint to it, so when I saw it, I was like, ‘Okay, this is perfect!”
TWIST: What’s a beauty item that always makes you feel confident? Why?
GD: Definitely my Venus Swirl razor! For me, feeling confident and beautiful when I’m on the floor is key because when you feel beautiful, you feel good about yourself and that comes off in my performance. And especially when you’re in a leotard, sometimes you don’t always feel the most secure when I’m on camera, so knowing my legs are smooth and clean boosts my confidence. It’s great knowing that that product can get into all the crevasses and leaves my legs looking flawless when all eyes are on me!
