Singer Cailee Rae just released her debut EP, titled "Overthinking," and it is packed with five awesome jams that we can't stop replaying. TWIST asked the singer to tell us a little bit about the process of creating these songs, and the meaning behind some of her tracks. Below is the piece she's sharing exclusively with us.
Making my EP "Overthinking" was an amazing experience. It was so fun learning all of these new things about music and being able to be a part of the entire process. I really want my listeners to take each song however they want to and relate to them in their own way. I want them to feel the songs and connect to them. Music is my outlet and I want to share music that can be an outlet for others.
Track 1 BYE YOU:
“Bye You" is a song about dealing with someone you know is no good for you. They might be charming and have a way about them, but they always end up being the same — a classic player. BYE!
Track 2 ANCHOR:
“Anchor,” my first single off the EP, is a song about realizing that something is holding you down. Whether it’s a person, a situation, or even yourself, it’s about moving on and getting negativity out of your life. I personally love this song because I I connect to it A LOT. There have been so many times in my life where I have realized I'm the only person that can save myself. I think a lot of people can relate to that. The music video for the song is truly a 3D representation of emotions and various things holding me back.
Track 3 SURRENDER:
"Surrender" is song about surrendering to an emotion. Accepting emotions is so hard and sometimes, especially when it comes to love, we just have to forfeit and risk our hearts getting broken. I love being in love so this song just makes my heart beat. :)
Track 4 STARTED:
“Started" is the most personal song on the EP. It's a song about being in a long distance relationship and the constant overthinking it sparks. When you love someone, distance is the least important thing. You just want it to work no matter what. At first it’s scary, but then you start to trust the other person. The lyric "look what you've started" is supposed to mean, "look at all of the emotions you have caused now." I'm sad, I'm happy, I'm scared, and I’m a mix of things I'm unfamiliar with, but I don't care because I love you. It’s a powerful song.
Track 5 I DONT CARE:
“I Don’t Care" is the true anthem of the EP. It’s a fun song about simply not caring and letting loose. Sometimes you have to "do you" and not care what other people think. You only live once so do what makes you happy. You can be ripest and juiciest peach in the world, but not everyone likes peaches.
