Bella Thorne has always been open and honest about the fact that she has dyslexia, a learning disorder that makes reading, writing, and interpreting written words all the more challenging. Some more facts about the condition? It doesn't define a person's intelligence, and you can't "tell" that a person has it by the way they look, which is what one Twitter user suggested about the actress.
"She's definitely the type of person where you can just look at her and know she's dyslexic," one Twitter user said about Bella.
Bella didn't shy away from correcting the rudeness and misunderstanding, suggesting that maybe the reason people know she's dyslexic is because she's always made it very clear she is – and is tired of being bullied about it.
"We['ve] all experienced bullying a very different way and honestly, I've just gotten to the point where I'm sick of it," Bella has previously told TWIST. "I did let it bother me and a lot of people tell you, 'Don't let it bother you,' but that's kind of impossible. So I'm not going to give [anyone else] that advice. I would say, stand up!"
"When I was in school, everybody just thought I was dumb [because] I'm dyslexic. My teacher would literally make me get up in front of the class and read in front of everyone, and still, to this day, I will cry reading in front of everyone. Like it haunts me, literally. The fact that something so small can have such a big impact..."
Bella has never let her dyslexia stand in the way of her career goals, either. She fueled all the negative comments about her reading abilities she has gotten over the years into the inspiration to write her very own book series, Autumn Falls.
"I never thought I would be an author," she has also told TWIST. "I'm dyslexic, so growing up with that, people told me 'oh that would never happen for you, you can't read,' and I actually never wanted to be an author because I hated reading so much when I was younger. But as I got older, I just really wanted to prove to my fans that if I can do something that I'm not supposed to be able to do, then you can do it too. You can go out there and do anything you set your mind to. This is so difficult and yet I did it with one of the most famous book publishing companies in the world. It's crazy to think about how you don't think you can do something but then you put your mind to it."
She continues to inspire us with her actions and words, and we're proud of her for having such an empowering outlook.
