Check out our exclusive Q & A below.
TWIST: What is something you're most excited about in your career right now?
Alexi Blue: My EP is coming out January 12! You guys are gonna love this new music. [So] 100% this new EP! The songs I’ve written for this EP are getting me so pumped. I just recently heard the final production for a couple of the songs, and I don't think the world is ready! It's pop, with a fierce edge. Lots of girl power. Songs you'll definitely wanna put on repeat. Catchy hooks and I'm really into my lyrics, so you'll get to hear my stories on this EP.
TWIST: What would you say to fans who are inspired by you who want to follow in your footsteps?
AB: I'd say it's important to have patience. It doesn't happen overnight, not even for “overnight sensations”. You have to love what you’re doing over everything because it takes a lot of hard work, but if you love what you’re doing the journey is a blessing.
TWIST: Who would your dream collaborations be with?
AB: Drake! Or Justin Timberlake. Or all three of us together. That would be intense.
TWIST: Have you ever gotten stage fright, and what would your advice be fore someone else going through it?
AB: I always get butterflies! But I think butterflies are a good thing because it shows that you care. I think the best way to deal with nerves is to be prepared, and a few deep breaths before going on always helps me.
12-12-16. Today is the one year anniversary of my song "Kicked a Girl". It's amazing to me how it continues to grow everyday because of the way you guys play it and share it and love it. It has become what it is now because of you, and I'm forever grateful! This song is a reminder to always be mindful of the power of words. Hearing how much it has inspired you over the last year has been so rewarding.... It's a huge reason why I create music so thank you for letting me do what I love. New music in 2017. Get ready. #KickedAGirl #1yearanniversary #music #spotify #itunes
TWIST: Is there an insecurity you had when you were younger that you embrace now?
AB: I've always had insecurities along the lines of “Am I good enough?” or “Can I compete?” or “Will they like me?”… I think as I’ve gotten older, of course those insecurities haven't gone away completely, but I’m now definitely able to embrace and love me for me instead of always questioning myself and feeling that I'm not “good” enough or “pretty” enough or won’t ever compete. I choose not to compare myself to others and I just focus on bettering myself and making myself happy by doing what I love.
TWIST: What's your best advice for teens out there who are struggling to find their confidence? AB: I'd say my best advice is to focus on what you’re good at and what you love doing, and stay in your zone. It could be anything! For me it’s music, but for you it might be acting or dancing or cooking or art. Whatever it is that you have a passion for, focus on it, and excel at it. That creates confidence. I'd also say to kill all negative thoughts. No negative vibes allowed.
TWIST: Do you have any advice for girls who may be getting bullied online?
AB: My advice would be to not take it personal and just focus on the positive. Don't let your mind go to a negative place. You have to love what you’re doing enough to not let it affect you. Also know that the better you get and the more you grow, the more negativity is gonna come your way. It’s unfortunate, but you just have to know that’s a part of the rise.
