Whether she's kicking butt in K.C. Undercover or working her magic on the red carpet, Zendaya is a role model we all look up to – but behind all the cameras is a real and relatable girl. Z explained that despite the fact that she can walk a red carpet like no other, she's not always trying so hard IRL.
"I love to slay a red carpet. When I step on one, I’m a different person,” Zendaya said. “Like Sasha Fierce and Beyoncé.”
Zendaya went on to say that her red carpet poise doesn't necessarily translate into her everyday life.
“Honestly, I walk like an old man—the Coleman Trudge," she said. “On the red carpet, I’m this dainty, slow, elegant gazelle.”
It's no secret that Zendaya is a very down-to-earth girl, but that doesn't go to say that the actress is one to keep her feelings to herself. Z has a way of making her voice heard, as we saw when she was racially discriminated against in the past. But even when she's faced with negative comments, Z always manages to carry herself in a classy, confident manner.
“I ask myself, Would I get the same opportunities—would I have this role or that role—if I were a darker- skinned black women? And the answer is no,” she said. “But the real thing is how do you take what you’ve been given and use it to better the situations of people that are your peers, your brothers and sisters?”
If one thing's for sure it's that Zendaya's kindness does not go unnoticed. The actress is a role model to many, and seeing how much little girls look up to her may just be what means the most to her.
"There was a little girl for Halloween last year that was me from the Oscars,” she said. “I think that was a big moment not just for me but for women of color,” she continued. “It’s a step in the right direction. But we have a long way to go.”
Keep being you, Z. We love ya for it.
