TWIST: Tell us a little bit about your music!
Ryan: My sound is very acoustic. We use all live instruments. It has this old school sound to it. I love older music like Elton John and Billy Joel - those are some of my musical influences. When I'm making music, I kind of base my music off of their music. I'm really excited for people to hear my music.
T: Awesome! So when did you get your start in the music industry? R: Well I've been singing my whole life. I've always had a passion for it but I really started sharing it when my sister made a YouTube channel a while back. We put up a few videos together, but it wasn't very successful. But then my sister Jenny convinced me to make my own channel in February of last year. I put up my cover of "Forget You" - that was my first cover on there - and I guess people liked it. I just put up some more and now I'm here. It's been an amazing past year. I had so much fun and I've had such great experiences. Doing music is something I'll always want to do for the rest of my life. I just feel like when I'm writing music and when I'm making my music I just feel that it's what I'm supposed to be doing.
T: Definitely. Tell us about your visit to China! R: I just got back two weeks ago. China was an amazing experience, and it was cool to see a different culture. I got to perform on a TV show out there and that was a lot of fun. The kids on the show were super talented and super hardworking. They made me want to work harder. They work all weekends and all the hours of the night. So it makes me want to work a little harder seeing how passionate they are. It was amazing to be there.
T: How was the food? R: The food was kind of... not my favorite food I'd have to say. It's so different! I love chow mein. It's one of my favorite Chinese dishes. So I get to China and I'm like, 'I can't wait to get chow mein!' They have chow mein but it's more like a soup. It is just so different! It's not necessarily gross but it just wasn't my favorite.
T: Definitely not the take-out you were expecting! So a lot of people have compared you to Justin Bieber. How do you feel about the comparison? R: Justin is super talented. He has an amazing voice. To be compared to someone who is super talented and super successful, it doesn't really bug me. But you know, our music is completely different. Our styles, and our influences - they're totally different. I think People compare me to him because I got started on YouTube and I'm a young male singer. But I think people say that before they listen to my actual music. I think once people listen to my music they'll see that you can't really compare our two styles. They're so different from each other.
T: Totally! Thanks for taking the time to chat with us! R: Definitely. Thanks, TWIST!
