XOXO, TWIST

TWIST: You're new on the scene. How did you get into music? Manika: Well, I'm a pop singer. My whole life I've always loved music; It's been my passion. And then I was discovered by Frank Dileo, who was Michael Jackson's manager, and CeCe Sammy, who was a judge on Pop Idol in the UK. Right now, things are just amazing. I'm on tour with the hottest boy band in the world, One Direction, and my new EP is out called The Middle of Hollywood, featuring my single "Good Girls", which is going to radio in June. It's like everything is coming together right now. It's really exciting. The EP has 5 songs on it. It's available on iTunes and also in a bunch of stores like Walmart, Best Buy, and FYE stores.

T: That's awesome. Tell us about your single! M: SoulShock produced it. He's amazing. He did "International Love", that song with Pitbull. He's done some stuff with Whitney Houston and Jojo. The song is just about the experiences I've been going through in Hollywood. It's called "Good Girls" and I'm a good girl. It's about my experience with guys, whether they're good or bad. Basically it's saying, 'You know what? All my good girls out there, we deserve a nice boyfriend. So let's get it.'

T: Where do you draw your inspiration from for your songs? M: There are so many artists I draw my inspirations from. It really varies. I love Alanis Morrissette and Avril Lavigne. I even like artists like Eminem and Lil Wayne. When I'm songwriting I really just draw my inspirations off of things that I'm going through. I like to put myself out there through my music. In my songs, it's really just like reading my diary.

T: Sounds like Taylor Swift! M: Yeah! I don't mention names though!

T: So you're on tour with One Direction, which is huge. How did you react when you found out you'd be their opening act?
M: When I heard the news that I was touring with One Direction, I was like, "Wow, this is amazing!" I have over 20 dates with them, going across the country touring with them. It's incredible. And actually, it's funny, when my cousins found out - they range from 8 to 17 - they all called me on the phone and were literally bawling their eyes out crying, saying, "Oh my god! You're touring with One Direction! Oh my god! We're so excited for you!" and my aunts were calling me saying, "Can you please calm them down? I think they're going to hyperventilate or something."

T: So funny! Have you been hanging out with them at all? M: Well, we're all backstage and everything. We've only been on tour for a few days so far but what I've seen from them, they're just really really sweet guys. They're boys, they like to have fun. You know how boys are. I have three little brothers and I'm around guys all the time, so I'm kind of used to it.

T: Awesome! Thanks Manika! M: Thank you, TWIST!
