TWIST just got to speak with Lucas Cruikshank, star of the Nickelodeon movie, Fred 3: Fred Goes to Camp! He was a blast to talk to and super excited about his new movie! Lucas dished to us about what to expect with the new movie, how he came up with the Fred character and his advice on making new friends! Check out the interview with Lucas below and be sure to tune in to Nickelodeon tomorrow at 8 PM to watch!
TWIST: So what can we expect from the new movie, Fred 3: Fred Goes to Camp? Lucas Cruikshank: It's just a classic summer camp movie. I mean, we kind of like pay homage to all the other summer camp movies like Heavyweights and Meatballs and that sort of thing. To me it was so much fun because I grew up watching those movies. It's just about Fred really expecting to go to this really nice day-spa like camp, but then he ends up going to this really low class camp called Camp IWannaPeePee. So he's pretty bummed about it, just by the name he knows it's not going to be fun [laughs]. Once he gets there he meets this group of friends who take him in and show him what camp is all about. He ends up enjoying it, and there's this big summer camp games rival between Camp IWannaPeePee and this really posh, fancy camp called Camp Superior.
T: Awesome! Are there any spoilers you can give us on the crazy adventures Fred has throughout the movie? LC: Not really. Basically they run into a lot of crazy situations as usual, and I think the fans will really like it because its just Fred getting into a lot of weird situations. And you really meet a whole new group of characters because at camp, you never have seen any of those people before. I think it'll be fun!
T: Cool! For those who don't know, how did you come up with the Fred character originally? LC: I guess I basically always enjoyed writing, comedy and performing for as long as I can remember. I remember my mom giving me a camera for my thirteenth birthday and I just started messing around with it, with friends and family. I made a bunch of characters and one of them was Fred. People always ask me how I came up with it, but honestly, I did it for fun! I wasn't thinking anything of it. I wasn't planning for it to turn into this, and I'm really excited that it all happened.
T: How are you and your character Fred alike? LC: I think we're alike in more ways than I'd like to think [laughs]. He's kind of an exaggerated version of me. We're both kind of weird but I think he's a lot weirder than me. Fred's a lot more fearless than me, he doesn't care what anyone thinks and doesn't care if anyone disagrees. So I like that about Fred, that he's really brave and out there.
T: Awesome! Can you give our readers any advice about making friends? LC: I think basically the best thing to do to make friends is to be yourself and don't be afraid to be outgoing. I know a lot of people are shy - and I guess I even used to be shy, but - I think you have to just let go of that and not be scared. Just be yourself because then you'll find friends who have the same interests as you.
T: Do you have an embarrassing moment you can share with us? LC: That's hard! I feel like my life is a series of embarrassing moments. When I was filming one of the Fred movies, my pants fell down in front of the whole entire crew on the first day of filming, so that was awkward! But I think embarrassing moments sort of bring people closer though, because that was the first day of filming and then after that happened, it kind of broke the ice.
T: OMG! What can our readers expect next? Do you have anything in the works coming soon? LC: Yea, I'm starting a new show with Nickelodeon called Marvin, Marvin, which is a whole new character so I'm really excited about that. I think it's a really good idea so I'm glad I'm doing it.
T: Awesome! Thanks so much for speaking with us! LC: Thank you!
