TWIST just caught up with country singer, Hunter Hayes! The recent CMA nominee and platinum artist came to the TWIST offices and dished on his musical influences and his tour with country beauty, Carrie Underwood! Make sure to check out Hunter's hit song, "Wanted," available on iTunes now!
TWIST: Your song "Wanted" just became a top five platinum song! How did you celebrate?
Hunter Hayes: Well, to be honest, we've been on the road so it's kind of hard to find time to celebrate. I think later we'll probably get together with the whole band and just hang out and celebrate with a ton of coffee.
TWIST: You have the "For the Love of Music" series on YouTube. What inspired that?
HH: I got really obsessed with music documentaries earlier this year. I just loved getting to see behind the scenes of my favorite musicians. I was like, "I really want to do something like that." I'm that geek that just spends all his time in the studio. It's always music all the time for me. So that's what "For the love of music" was. It's just a tribute to that and the fans and all the awesome things that they do.
TWIST: Who are your musical influences?
HH: I think the better question would be, "Who are your musical influences this week?" It's so funny, because it changes every day. This week, I'm really into the Train record. I pull from everything. I connect with a lot of things musically.
TWIST: You're working with Carrie Underwood. How's that?
HH: I am stoked about it. I think it's going to be even better than I'm thinking it will be! I'm excited because we're doing 55 shows with her.
TWIST: What's the worst part of touring for you?
HH: The worst part I think is my sleep schedule, because my day is turned on its end. It starts when most people's days end. But it still is a 12-14 hour day and I jam-pack it with as much stuff as I can possibly fit in. I don't let myself get a lot of sleep, which is not healthy. After three months on the road you're like, "Okay, when does the sun come up?"
TWIST: What's next for you?
HH: The tour! The biggest thing in my world right now is thinking about that tour and Carrie Underwood. As far as the show goes, it changes everyday, which I think drives everybody nuts. But that just keeps it real. That keeps it from being show number 100 and I'm still doing the same thing and I'm bored with it and everybody can tell. I hate that. We've got a lot of cool stuff going on on that tour. We've got our coffee house and we've got fun scavenger hunts via Twitter. It's going to be fun!
