TWIST caught up with Tiffany Thornton from So Random! We chatted about So Random, Voices of Meningitis, and getting married in November! Check out our interview below!
TWIST: You're the spokesperson for the Voices of Meningitis. Tell me a little bit about that?
Tiffany: I contracted meningitis when I was 19 and spent ten days in the hospital fighting for my life. It's a really scary disease that you can contract communicably, which means most preteens and teens are susceptible to getting it because it's contracted via sharing drinks or kissing or being in close quarters with each other, and it can take a life within 24 hours. We urge parents and teens and preteens to get vaccinated and that's the most effective way to prevent your kid, or your child or yourself from getting meningitis.
TWIST: What was it like when it happened to you?
Tiffany: It was really scary because I really didn't know much about it. When I first went to the doctor, they thought that I had the flu, and they sent me home. My mom was like, "I realize that this must be much more serious because she has a really stiff neck and she doesn't seem to be feeling any better at all." She took me back to the doctor and they quarantined my hospital room. I was really fortunate to survive because one out of every five people who comes down with this disease leaves with permanent damage, whether its loss of limbs or brain loss. It's a very, very serious disease. But that's the thing, a lot of people just don't know about it! We actually have a website, it's voicesofmeningitis.org and a Facebook page, "Raise your voice against meningitis," where people can go to get more information.
TWIST: Can you tell me a little bit about So Random?
Tiffany: We have a lot of sketches! I revisit a character named Mrs. Lash. She's really fun to play. We have some more Rufus, who is played by Matthew Scott Montgomery and that's one of my favorites. Allisyn Arm plays a character named Maggie. She's really funny! The anime brothers come back---which is Shayne Topp and Damien Haas---so we have a lot going on. It's weird to know that we've got our whole first season under our belts, because it feels like just yesterday we were starting this journey.
TWIST: If you could have anyone guest star on the show, who would it be?
Tiffany: I would have anyone from country music: Tim McGraw, Zac Brown, Jason Aldean, Faith Hill, or Martina McBride. Musically I would pick someone from country music because we haven't had a country artist on. A guest star to act with? I would love Kristin Chenoweth to come on the show because she's so cute and so funny.
TWIST: I know that you're getting married soon, are you excited?
Tiffany: Yeah! November 12th, right around the corner!
TWIST: Demi Lovato's going to be one of your bridesmaids, is that true?
Tiffany: Yes, she's supposed to be, but we're making sure her schedule doesn't conflict. I know she's going on tour at some point, so we just have to get it cleared. But hopefully!
TWIST: Do you have any upcoming projects or anything you're working on besides So Random?
Tiffany: I'm really happy to be a part of the Voices of the Meningitis campaign because it's something really close to my heart. I'm coming out with a country album hopefully next year. I'm working on that right now, so I'll be back and forth to Nashville. I'm getting married! And I have a jewelry line, which is available on shopbesobeso.com with my friend Jackie. I'm working on a cookbook right now, and there are a few other coals in the fire, so hopefully even more than that.
TWIST: Do you have anything else you want to say?
Tiffany: We love our fans, and all of us here at So Random are really honored that everybody stuck by our side and that they've supported us through this journey!
