Will you check out Baby Daddy this summer?! Tell us in the comments!
TWIST: Can you tell us about your new show Baby Daddy?
Tahj Mowry: Baby Daddy is a new original sitcom for ABC Family. It's going to premiere on June 20th. It's a younger, more modernized version of [the movie] Three Men and a Baby. You have three idiots trying to take care of a baby that was left on their doorstep. I play the best friend to the baby daddy. The three of us try to come together to make a family for this little girl that was left on our doorstep. It's just really cute, comical, just sort of fish out of water comedy. We have no idea what we're doing. We can't even take care of ourselves but we end up falling in love with this baby. We start to really like having her around. It's just really fun.
TWIST: Could you tell us about the character you play?
TM: I play Tucker and he is the best friend to Ben, who is the baby daddy, played by Jean-Luc Bilodeau. Tucker is that friend that everyone wants. He can kind of be [mean] at times, but he loves having fun. He's the funny one in the show. He may not say the right things at the right time. He really has no filter. It's a really fun character to play. There's really no dull moment with Tucker.
TWIST: How are you like your character?
TM: I'd say I'm like my character because he's really into fashion and it takes place in New York so he loves his clothes. When you see the show all the other guys are wearing t-shirts and jeans and like Tucker is wearing skinny ties and vests. It's just really funny. That's a similarity. Also, I love my friends, and I'm a friend that any one of my friends can come talk to about situations and I feel as though Tucker is like that as well
TWIST: What's it like on set with the cast?
TM: Oh my gosh, Chelsea Kane--I love that girl--she is hilarious, she's beautiful. We have so much fun on set and the whole cast is really interesting and a blessing to work with a cast. We just started filming so for us to have the chemistry we do is unheard of. Derek Theler is awesome! He's huge! So we always make jokes on set how big he is because everyone else is like normal size. We also have Jean-Luc who was on Kyle XY. He's amazing. He fits the character great. My other favorite is Melissa Peterman who plays the mom. She is a class act. There's not a dull moment with her on set. It's fun, the whole cast is a great, tight knit group. It's just a big family and is just a blessing for it to happen that fast.
TWIST: That's really good! Do you have any favorite on-set memory so far?
TM: Every day on set is a memory. Our entire crew are class acts. The crew, the cast, everyone! There's not a dull moment on set. I honestly don't know how we get work done. It's a great comedy and everyone on the show is comical so when we're not working, we're making jokes and laughing. The chemistry of the show seems as though we've known each other for a really long time but we haven't.
TWIST: You're also working on music right now! How would you describe your sound?
TM: My sound is very different. I'm like that as a person with my clothes. I like to be different; I don't like to follow trends. My music is very alternative, R&Bish. I like experimenting with sounds that aren't used that much. I love alternative music so it definitely has sort of a rocker vibe but it's still very soulful. It's very upbeat because I love to dance. That's the sound that I'm going for.
TWIST: Why should TWIST readers check out the show when it premieres this summer?
TM: It's hilarious, it's heartfelt, and it's cute! We have the cutest baby in the world on the show. She's just a doll to work with. To be so young you would think she's more pro than the actors! If you love babies watch it! Also every character is different and anyone can relate. It's perfect for ABC Family because family is in the title of the network. That's exactly what it is. It's a family show. All ages can watch it. I feel like everyone's going to love it. It's a great show.
TWIST: Thanks so much for talking with us Tahj!
TM: Thanks TWIST!
