Hey TWIST gals,
You may recognize Kate Voegele from her role of Mia Catalano on One Tree Hill but did you know that this awesome actress is also an uber-talented singer-songwriter as well? One Tree Hill might be over for the summer but you can get your Kate fix by checking out her brand new album, Gravity Happens -- out now! Or see her on tour this summer with Natasha Bedingfield! Kate recently stopped by the TWIST offices to chat with us about her musical inspirations, how she relates to Mia and what really happens behind-the-scenes on One Tree Hill! Check it out below!
TWIST: How would you describe your new album, Gravity Happens?
Kate: It's a really summer-y album. Hopefully it'll be something that people want to listen to when they're driving with the windows down. I want [the album] to be like your favorite pair of blue jeans. I want people to be able to put it on no matter what kind of mood they're in. I want it to rock like a Sheryl Crow song but have the attitude and swagger of a Shania Twain song.
TWIST: You write all your own music, so where do you find inspiration for these songs?
Kate: It usually happens for me at the most inconvenient times! It'll be 4 in the morning and I'll have a great idea! I take inspiration from pretty much anything and everything. I'm always looking for inspiration but I have to let it come to me instead of forcing it!
TWIST: You play Mia on One Tree Hill and she's a singer-songwriter as well. Have you had a favorite musical moment with your character?
Kate: I think my favorite episode would have to be the one where I sang a song from my second record called "Manhattan From the Sky." We shot this scene where Mia and Chase are talking about the song and I loved that the writers allowed Mia to explain her writing process to another character on the show. And the script actually reflected the real inspiration behind the song!
TWIST: Speaking of Chase, you play his love interest on the show. So you have to tell us: what's it really like to kiss Stephen Colletti?
Kate: Stephen is one of the most fun people I've met. He's really genuine and very down-to-earth. And he's a goof! People always ask, "Is it weird kissing?" But it's totally not weird! We just laugh about it!
TWIST: What about the rest of the cast? Do you guys hang out when the cameras aren't rolling?
Kate: Yes! It's a total summer camp type of thing. Stephen Colletti and James Lafferty are two of my really good friends on the show. And all the girls are sweethearts! Everyone just really cares about the fans!
TWIST: Thanks so much Kate!
Kate: Thank you, TWIST!
