Hey TWIST Girls,
Have you ever had a totally embarrassing moment that you thought you would never get over? Let's face it, everyone has those moments and MTV has a new show premiering on July 19th called Awkward that focuses on them. TWIST got the chance to talk to one of the stars from the new show, Jillian Rose Reed! Read the interview below to find out more about the show.
TWIST: Can you tell me a little bit about the show Awkward? Jillian: Awkward is a half hour comedy. It basically gives you a little peek into the life of a teenager and all the humor and chaos and situations that you get yourself into and how it really defines teenage life.
TWIST: Can you tell me a little about your character? Jillian: I play Tamara. She's Jenna Hamilton's best friend and the show kind of circles around Jenna Hamilton. Tamara's a mixture of sassyness and she's loud and she kind of says whatever she wants. She's very open-minded and she loves adventure. She's kind of the really fun one on the show and I get to experiment with a lot of fun lines and quirky situations.
TWIST: Do you relate to your character at all? Jillian: Absolutely. I basically based Tamara off of my life and the life of my friends. Tamara, like I said, speaks her mind and is very open-minded and that's definitely how I am in real life. I always say that Tamara would be down for an adventure anytime and that's definitely how I feel I am.
TWIST: Are there any differences? Jillian: Tamara has a little bit of a different style then I do. She dresses very out of the box. A lot of stuff is vintage, which I can relate to. She mixes a lot of patterns, which I don't really do. So I'd say that's the biggest difference. I love to do the whole bohemian vintage thing, where she's more of crazy patterns.
TWIST: What's it like behind the scenes? Do you hang out with your costars? Jillian: We do! We're actually all really, really close. We hang out a lot off set. It's funny, Molly, who plays our mean girl on the show, she plays Sadie Saxton the cheerleader. She's actually one of my really close friends and we just all get along so well. We're just really, really lucky to have a cast that loves each other because I think when people watch the show they'll be able to tell that we really get along.
TWIST: Why should our readers tune into the show on July 19th? Jillian: I think that the readers should tune in because it's something that everyone can relate to. This show deals with things that you go through in high school... so even if you're young and you haven't even been in high school yet and you're worried about it, or if you're in high school now and you're dealing with this stuff it gives you a little bit of comic relief and it lets you know that these things that happened to you that are so awkward and so embarrassing in high school are really funny and they're laughable and relatable and everyone goes through them.
TWIST: Do you have a message about the show you want to share? Jillian: I would say that the show is really a message of empowerment and female empowerment especially. And it's a really great show for girls who are coming into their own and trying to discover who they are. And I think that if you're watching the show it's really going to help young girls and young viewers to really understand that it's okay to go through those awkward years.
