Hey Twist girls,
Ashlee Keating recently swung by our offices, and we had a blast chatting with her about her music, and what it was like to open for Demi Lovato and Keke Palmer! Check out the interview below, and let us know what you think of her!
T: First, can you talk a little about your music and your sound? AK: Yeah, for sure my music is totally something that can show what I'm like. It's definitely pop. It's all the way, pop music. And it's something everyone can dance to, and have a good time listening to it. you can really relate to the lyrics. That's my main thing, I want everyone to be able to relate to it, and listen to it and be like, "Oh I love this song." It's very unique, it's my own style, it's nothing I think anyone's heard I don't think. I just want to be myself, but it's definitely pop.
T: Who are your musical influences? AK: I don't really have just one, I have like a billion. I have a long list, but I really love Justin Timberlake, and Bruno Mars, he's an amazing artist. And I also really love Rihanna and Katy Perry and Lady Gaga and Beyonce, I really really love. I also really like Justin Bieber too, he's cool. T: So you opened up for Keke Palmer, Raven-Symone and Demi Lovato. Could you talk about that? AK: Yeah, that was amazing, after I'd been on Radio Disney I got the chance to open for all of them, and I remember at Demi's concert it was insane. There were so many people there, and it was crowded and I remember on that day actually, it was in Philadelphia and it was supposed to storm, so I had just performed and it started pouring rain and thunder storming, but everyone went to my meet and greet line to sign autographs and I signed autographs for like 4 hours straight or something like that in the rain. It was just so cool because there were so many fans there. It was great meeting them, and also with Keke and Raven and Demi, they were all so great and I absolutely loved opening for them and they're really cool people. It was really fun. T: So did you get to spend time with any of them at all? AK: Demi, I met for like 5 minutes, and she was like, "Oh cool, I like your shirt!" I won't forget that, because I had on this sequin shirt, it was really cute, and I got it at Forever 21, and she was like, "I like that," and that's how we started our conversation. And Raven I actually I did get to hang with her a little bit backstage because her dressing room was right next to mine, so I was like "Hey!" And she's hilarious. And we talked backstage for a few minutes and got a picture. And Keke, too. I mean really all of them I got to spend time with. And Keke, yeah, we got to hang out backstage, I actually know her, I've seen her like a billion times since then, so it's really cool.
T: You've done some acting, you were on iCarly? AK: Yeah, I didn't do a big huge role or anything, but I was in a classroom scene, and that was really fun to be on set with some kids that I know too. Nathan and Miranda are in Starlight Children's Foundation with me and so it was really cool and I love being on set and acting, and I also did that with Victorious too. It's really fun, and now I'm auditioning for different acting roles for pilot season and everything so, it's good.
T: What's been the highlight of your career so far? AK: Basically everything! No, I love it, I would say probably just getting my record deal right now. Since I was really really young, I always knew that I wanted to have a record deal and be a pop star and just do what I love the rest of my life, so right now it doesn't feel real because it's so perfect, and I just really worked hard and it's just surreal. So that would definitely be the highlight right now, and be able to go to you guys and be in magazines, and record an album that's going to be out. Just doing everything I love, that's definitely the highlight right now, my major accomplishment.
T: So what can we look forward to seeing from you in the future? AK: I'm going to be releasing my single in the spring, debut single, and I'm going to be doing promotions for that, going all over the place, getting ready. And I'm going to be doing a photo shoot soon, like in the next few months, I'm doing a music video, a debut music video, I'm very excited, and I'm also working on my album. And really I just want to have a huge hit single and have my fans just love the music and really be able to relate to me.
T: Thanks Ashlee!
