Selena Gomez has recently been very open honest about her experiences with body-shaming, explaining that she loves her figure and tries her best to brush off haters' mean comments about her weight. Now, the singer revealed even more about her journey, sharing that she sought therapy to deal with the weight-shaming and bullying words people were using against her.
"I'd land at the airport and people would yell out, 'You're fat!' It was awful," the star told Us Weekly.
The experiences were so difficult that Selena decided to get professional help to deal with the issue. "I've been working in therapy," she shared about how she's learning to overcome the stress. "Each year, I'm becoming more who I am. I have a little more self-awareness. I feel confident and free. I'm not going to hide in my room and be depressed."
It's never okay to make rude jabs about another person's size – whether it's online in anonymous Instagram comments or in person like the words exchanged in Selena's story. By opening up about how therapy has helped her cope with hearing body-shaming comments, she's showing us all just how hurtful words can be – and teaching us a major lesson about how to learn to love our bodies at any size.
