Get ready: it's time for the fifth online edition of our popular monthly celeb feature, The TWIST List!
This May 2017, we're shining our star spotlight onto actress Ronni Hawk. You may already be familiar with the star's breakout role: playing Rachel on Disney Channel's hit series, Stuck in the Middle, but TWIST caught up with the 17-year-old star to get the full scoop on her career – and even find out a little bit more on what her fictional Disney family is up to.
Ronni tells us that her life changed forever when she booked her role on SITM, currently airing its second season, and it's a feeling she shared with several of her co-stars.
"A lot of us were very new to the industry when we got in the show, it's the first thing I've ever done," Ronni shares. "It was a whole learning experience. I went from, like, auditioning every now and then to working every single day for like 12 hours. It was exhausting at first and trying to keep up with school and trying to have somewhat of a social life. I mean, but I was having the best time of my life, like the whole time of filming."
In addition to seeing the Diaz family has grow in whole new ways over the course of the show so far, Ronni says that a lot has changed behind-the-scenes since filming first began. In comparison to Season 1, "the writers really learned who we were, so they were putting us into the characters a little bit during Season 2," she shares.
"I think my [real-life] family is just as crazy as the Diaz family. I'm gonna be 500% honest. I feel like
we’re always late to everything," she adds. "We do love each other at the end of the day, but there's always trouble and different personalities and trying to get through everything."
Ronni got her first taste of movie-style acting with this spring's release of the Stuck in the Middle TV special spinoff project, Stuck in the Water Park, but she shares that she has big movie dreams for her career ahead of her.
"I really want to get into film," Ronni spills. "I'm really into film, or indie films, and cool dramatic things. I want to move into that for awhile."
Ronni also says that being on this series has changed her outlook on herself and her own talents and ambitions, which is even more obvious since she literally is growing up on this show.
"[When I was younger,] I wanted to be a lawyer, like all my life. A criminal defense lawyer. And then I started modeling. And then I went to an actor’s workshop. And then I was like, 'Woah. I’m kind of in love with this.' And I signed with an agent and manager and I just started working in LA and continuing to do commercials and things like that," she shares. "And I loved it, so I switched over to wanting to be an actor. But I do want to go to college for archaeology."
"I learned [from experience] that I am a lot more determined than I thought. I have a lot of lazy moments, but I love this industry. I feel like it's changing who I am, as I'm growing into an adult."
She cites Dylan and Cole Sprouse on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and Raven-Symoné on That's So Raven as some of her career inspirations – and she finds it crazy overwhelming to think that she may have that same Disney Channel effect on younger generations herself.
"Honestly, it's a little intense," Ronni shares about how she feels about being a role model to young girls. "I mean, you can change the way people think. I really want to inspire the new generation to just be happy with themselves."
