Congratulations are in order for Nastia Liukin: the Olympic gymnast graduated New York University over the weekend!
In addition to proudly posting photos of her in her graduation cap and gown on social media, the athlete also shared a family photo and a really inspiring message about the importance of education.
"When I was 12 years old my dad told me that you'll never know how far your gymnastics career will take you, but an education will stick with you for the rest of my life," she wrote. "As any 12 year old child does, I nodded my head and promised him I would one day go to college and get my degree. Today as my name was called and I walked across the stage to get my diploma I couldn't help but look into the audience and smile. Filled with so much gratitude and love, I have to thank him and my mom for constantly believing in me and loving me, every step of the way. I DID IT!!!! 🎓💜 #NYU."
Eight years after winning Olympic gold, Nastia is just as proud to hold up her diploma!
