If you are a fan of Lily Collins, then you already know that the actress has freely opened up about her deepest insecurities in the past. However – until now, she hasn't quite revealed where exactly those painful struggles stem from. The British-American star, who is the daughter of Grammy Award-winning musician Phil Collins, opened up in her book all about the "terrible disconnect" between her and her father that caused her to feel so upset and angry.
"He may have still been alive, but most of the time it felt as if her were completely gone," the Golden Globe-nominated actress wrote in her book, titled Unfiltered. "I knew he loved me, yet he wasn't physically around to tell me."
Wow, poor Lily. Our hearts seriously break for her.
"He assumed everything was always fine because I never said otherwise. It established a detrimental pattern. And I've realized that many of my deepest insecurities stem from these issues with my dad. It's taken me more than a decade to resolve some of them (others I'm still resolving) and to finally build up the courage to speak my mind to him."
The Love, Rosie star continued the open letter to her father by stating that she does feel a sense of acceptance now, as she will always be his "little girl."
"I accept and honor the sadness and anger I felt towards the things you did or didn't do, did or didn't give me," she wrote. "I forgive you for not always being there when I needed and for not being the dad I expected. I forgive the mistakes you made. And although it may seem like it's too late, it's not. There's still so much time to move forward."
Although the Stuck in Love actress didn't seem to pinpoint exactly which insecurities came from her rocky relationship with her father, she has spoken about some inner conflicts she's had with herself in the past. Being embarrassed about her physical features, like her now-famous eyebrows was among them.
“When I was younger and moved from England to LA, kids made fun of my eyebrows," she has spilled to TWIST. "Everyone had these thin eyebrows, and it just was a very different look. I tried to pluck them myself and it didn’t really work so well! Luckily, they grew back."
Her eyebrows wasn't the only feature of hers that she struggled with. Lily has also opened up about her battle with anorexia.
If one thing is for sure it is that Lily is an extremely strong woman, and we respect her for overcoming every obstacle she is faced with with such grace.
