Jack Johnson has discovered an incredibly stylish pair of boots – but when shopping for them, he unexpectedly also realized a very important thing about gender stereotypes. The Jack and Jack rapper shared his experience with his fans on social media, where he explains why he is not at all embarrassed that his new accessories are from the women's department.
"Road trippin 🌀I was lookin at these boots yesterday in a shop and the attendant was like 'you know those are women's boots right?' and immediately I was like 'oh s***' and started to set them back down," Jack posted on Instagram along with a photo of him showing off some great footwear.
"Then something clicked in my head. Why was that my reaction?" he continued. "It kinda made me upset once I realized I was only setting them back because they were 'women's boots' when that didn't make them any less fly! Kinda whack how our brains are conditioned to think like that growing up."
Jack seemed really bothered that he let the women's label sway his initial love for the boots – and he's not just imagining it. After all, a lot of us are conditioned to think that guys shouldn't wear "girly" things, and that can be really damaging.
"Basically all I'm tryna say is, wear whatever you think is fresh, don't let labels dictate your decisions!" he shared.
He's definitely got a great point! It really doesn't matter if your clothes are from the kids' section, adults', mens', or womens' – as long as they fit you, you love them, and you feel fierce, fabulous, and confident in your selections.
Respect people! It's so easy! If they are different from you, RESPECT those differences. Don't have a constricted perspective...— J (@JackJ) December 21, 2016
