OMG, HOLD THE PHONES. Disney Channel just casually dropped a major bombshell on us. The official PR account for the channel just tweeted out a message saying that they are starting a new casting search for High School Musical 4. That's right: not only is a fourth film in the popular franchise happening, but WE CAN HYPOTHETICALLY ALL BE IN IT.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Jeffrey Hornaday, who worked on the Teen Beach Movie franchise, will direct and choreograph High School Musical 4, and didn't mention Kenny Ortega, who worked on the first three HSM movies.
"High School Musical is part of Disney Channel’s DNA. It embodies all that we stand for," Gary Marsh, Disney Channel's President and CCO, said in a statement. "As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we’re excited to announce ‘the start of something new’ — as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a fourth installment of the High School Musical franchise."
We'll be on the lookout for more announcements, because this alert is giving us serious heart palpitations.
