We absolutely love when celebs use their birthday wishes as a chance to give back and raise awareness for great causes – and that's what Bella Thorne is doing this year! The actress is celebrating her 18th birthday today, and instead of asking for presents, she wants her fans to get involed with the Boys & Girls Club's new efforts.
In lieu of gifts for my 18th birthday, I would love for you to help me raise money for the Boys & Girls Club http://t.co/wnltLJ9RvK— bella thorne (@bellathorne) October 3, 2015
On her page for the charity, Bella revealed that the cause is close to her heart because the program is all about boosting teens' self-esteem, something that is very important to her.
"I'm not afraid to be myself, but I did not always feel that way. When I first started out acting I tried so hard to please everyone around me. Everyone wanted me to be something different," she shared. "With the support of my family and friends, they helped me realize that being me is all I could be. They taught me to love myself – a gift that I will always be thankful for."
"As I embark on turning 18, I want to give others the same gift by raising money for the Boys & Girls Club's program SMART Girls," Bella explained. "The program focuses on health, fitness and self-esteem for girls ages 8 to 17 and teaches self-worth and loving yourself. Every penny raised will go to the SMART Girls program. I have everything I could ever need so please help me celebrate turning 18 by helping others."
How sweet is that?!
