If you've seen the last few episodes of Bella and the Bulldogs, chances are that you're already in love Froy Gutierrez, who plays Charlie on the show. From capturing Bella Dawson's heart to fighting for her affections at Homecoming, his character always keeps us guessing. Well, TWIST recently caught up with Froy and asked him to tell us all about how he first booked his role on the Nickelodeon series – and you'll love hearing his story.
"Holy cow!" Froy tells us, recalling the experience. "I remember my mom helped me tape the audition in my closet in my house, because my little brother was upstairs. I was really nervous because the character description for Charlie was like, 'total dream bae,' and you know I'm like a theater geek from this arts school. And then when I got the call a couple of weeks later, I freaked out, I was so excited, I celebrated with some Nutella."
Froy tells us that heading out to his first day of filming on the show was quite the adventure!
"When I walked on set for the first time, it was so cool," he shares. "You had to wonder what the explorers felt like when they first saw the Grand Canyon, like it was so incredible. I was shaking with nervousness, and thankfully the cast is so kind and so generous that it really felt like a home. They weren't these huge stars on TV, they were just kids like me."
He wasn't just met with a community of friendly faces on set – he immediately got along with his co-star and fellow Texan, Brec Bassinger.
"Brec and I are both from Dallas, so we were chatting about how things have changed in the city, and changes because of the show, and she said something along the lines of 'don't let the hate get to your heart, and don't let the compliments get to your head.' That was really great, and I make sure to think of that advice ever since."
How special is that?
