Over the weekend, the Descendants fandom was blessed with the ultimate treat: Disney Channel finally dropped the first official footage from the upcoming sequel, Descendants 2 at the Radio Disney Music Awards. While there are many moments in the trailer worth freaking out over, one of the main surprises that struck us was Mal's blonde hair makeover in Auradon – and her subsequent hair transformation when she decides to return to the evil side.
When we see Mal ditch her temporary blonde locks for her signature purple shade, it's very noticeable that her hair is lighter, straighter, and edgier than any look she tried out in the first film – and it's something the characters themselves reference in the video. At the very end of the trailer, we see Mal and Evie assessing the new look,

Well, actress Dove Cameron herself has responded to this scene, and gave a little insight about why the line comes across so genuine.
ITS LITERALLY @DoveCameron IRL THOUGH THAT WAS MY FAVORITE PART OF THE TRAILER https://t.co/JP1ch5wHlm— lily (@riverdaledove) May 1, 2017

Does it sound just like an exchange that she would have with her co-star Sofia Carson in real life? That's because it is an unscripted piece of dialogue that the girls added in themselves!
that was improv'd, so you not wrong @SofiaCarson https://t.co/2mJcUssOsR— Dove Cameron (@DoveCameron) May 1, 2017

We love that the actresses added in a touch of their own personalities and friendship into their characters' stories!
