If you love using Twitter to interact directly with your favorite celebs, you've likely exchanged a conversation with Dove Cameron. The Descendants and Hairspray Live! actress has been known to chat with her fans and serve up some real advice on her social media channels, so when TWIST caught up with her, we asked her how important she thinks it is to have a presence like this online.
"I think that, especially these days, [it's important]," she tells us exclusively. "Even if you looked at the model of being an actor 15 years ago, social media wasn’t there, it wasn’t part of it. And so, I hear a lot of people say, 'It’s a part of the job,' and while it definitely is a part of the job to have social media, it’s not necessarily part of the job to interact with your fans. But, I think that if you don’t take advantage of that opportunity, it’s crazy."
"I mean, you’re crazy! You have a direct line of access to people who want to hear from you, who want to talk to you, who care about what you have to say, and you have a close relationship with them," she adds. "They influence us, we influence them. We make choices on behalf of them, they make choices on behalf of us. It’s a very interesting dichotomy that you don’t really find anywhere else. Because it’s not like being a parent and it’s not like being a sibling. It’s sort of like being a friend, I mean, not even really. It’s such a weird, cool relationship and I personally think it’s different than any relationship I’ve ever seen."

So, does Dove feel a lot of pressure to share advice and conversations with fans?
"No, it’s not. For me, it’s not pressure," she shares. "I have had a lot of people ask me, 'Are you afraid of being a role model?' and I’m really not."
"I've also had some people question some of the things that I put out there. Not in a big way, but like, just little things, like, 'you’re an influence, you’re a role model,' she adds. "I have never put anything out in the world that I wouldn’t be proud of everyone of every age seeing because I truly trust myself."
"I don’t have anything in me that’s not worth sharing and I don’t have anything in me that would harm a young mind," she adds. "I truly, truly believe that the way I live my life, I couldn’t say anything that would make me a bad role model. And I don’t mean that in a cocky way, I just mean that that’s the way I try to live! I try to live honestly and openly and kindly and true, genuine love and true, open thoughts."
We love her philosophy – and we're so grateful she's so open with fans!
