Growing up in the public eye, Ciara Bravo has unfortunately learned a lot about dealing with cyberbullying on social media. Now, the actress is partnering with Invisalign Teen to help girls find ways to boost their confidence – and one of the ways she's spreading good energy is opening up about how to shrug off online bullies in a positive way.
"[Online bullying] is such a difficult situation to be in, because social media is something that is so prevalent in our everyday life and everyone’s first instinct is to say 'just don’t read the comments, don’t look at them,'" Ciara dishes to TWIST. "But you can’t, I mean, it’s such a ridiculous thing to say because, I guess it’s the whole curiosity thing – you have that whole saying 'curiosity killed the cat.'"
"You can learn from these situations and you try to find the bright side. It’s so difficult and it’s not fun – it’s the least fun thing in the world having people say mean things about you," Ciara explains. "But it definitely teaches you who you care about and it makes you appreciate the friends in your life who are kind. It teaches you in the most difficult way possible to love yourself and to really, really appreciate the things you enjoy and the things that bring joy into your life. And I think, if anything, that could be the one great thing that comes out of it."
"It’s important when you are reading those comments to remind yourself, 'okay, yes, that’s what they think and they’re incredibly aggressive in their way of expressing their opinions and they’re rude and they don’t understand that. But here’s what I like, here’s what I enjoy, here’s why I like it and I’m going to express that positive energy into the world,'" she shares. "You can take those negative comments and you can make something good out of it for yourself. And it’s going to be tricky and it’s not going to be easy to do, but in the long run it’ll pay off."
That's some amazing advice!
