Brooke Hummel is tackling a big issue with her new song, "Cruel," and TWIST is exclusively premiering her track. The raw and emotional song is all about bullying, and how mean and cruel words can be hurtful whether they're something you hear yelled in the hallways at school or in awful comments on social media.
In addition to sharing her inspiring track with us, Brooke also dished the tips she uses to deal with bullies, a method called "Stop, Block, and Tell:"
STOP looking at or reading hate, it will only make things worse.
BLOCK bullies online; everyone has a block button on their phones, so you can essentially block that person out of your online life. Don't give your bullies the access to any of your personal pages or numbers.
TELL any adult or friend that is in your life. Nobody should have to go through this alone. Trust me, talking about your emotions and getting advice on how to stop these things is better than suffering in silence.
"Never let bullies see they are affecting you, or else your letting them win your happiness," Brooke tells us. "At the end of the day, your feelings might be hurt, but if you stand up for yourself and don't let them affect you, then that shows you are the bigger person and most of the time the bully will back down."
"I meet a lot of people who tell me they feel like they are getting bullied because something was wrong with them. Remember, none of this happening is your fault," she adds. "You did nothing to deserve feeling like you are less than another. Never let people control your happiness. Be the best you, you can be every day and always try to encourage others to do the same. You will get through this."
