Chances are, you know and love actor Amarr M. Wooten for his work on some of your favorite Disney Channel and Nickelodeon shows like Liv and Maddie, BUNK'D, and Splitting Adam. Now, the star is nominated for several awards honoring his guest spots, and TWIST had to ask him all about the experiences he has had with those projects when we recently caught up with him. Check out our exclusive Q & A below.
TWIST: Can you tell us about your Young Artist Awards nominations? What does it mean to you to be recognized?
Amarr M. Wooten: I was nominated for Best Guest Starring Teen Actor on BUNK'D. I also received Young Entertainer Awards nominations for Best Recurring Young Actor for Liv and Maddie and Best Guest Starring Young Actor for BUNK'D! I feel honored to be nominated for these awards.
TWIST: What was your experience like working on BUNK'D?
AMW: They were like a family on set, and I loved the experience! I was already a fan of the cast from Jessie and BUNK'D – then to be able to work with them, and be a part of the show was really cool!
TWIST: What was your experience like meeting the cast?
AMW: Everyone was very nice to me! BUNK'D and Liv and Maddie shoot on the same studio lot. When I had a break from filming Liv and Maddie, I would go over to the BUNK'D set to say "hi" to everyone!
TWIST: Do you have any fun behind-the- scenes stories to share from your guest-spot?
AMW: Nathan [Arenas] (Jorge) and I would mess around all the time on set, and even try to make each other laugh while we did our lines!
TWIST: What was it like your very first day on set of Liv and Maddie?
AMW: Getting to meet all the cast was great! I had to stay on my toes because instead of sitting and saying your lines at the table read, we had to stand up and actually perform our lines, which I was not used to!
TWIST: Were there any cast members you clicked with right away?
AMW: I clicked with Tenzing [Norgay Trainor] (Parker Rooney), and we've been cool since!
TWIST: Have you ever found any funny props or costumes on set?
AMW: My favorite prop was definitely on the set of Liv and Maddie. It was the Falcon mask Joey wore from the Halloween episode!
TWIST: Have you ever witnessed a blooper while filming?
AMW: I have experienced bloopers while filming all the time! One of the funniest bloopers I can remember was from the episode where I ask Falcon/Joey if he could make his voice my ringtone. We had to do that scene so many times because Joey kept accidentally swatting the phone out of my hand or dropping it!
TWIST: Are there any ways you're like any of your characters or can relate to them?
AMW: The character I related to the most was Sheldon from Nickelodeon's Splitting Adam!
TWIST: How is working in front of a live studio audience compared to other projects you've been a part of?
AMW: I love the live studio audiences! They energize the mood on set for the actors.
TWIST: Which other series out there would you love to be a part of?
AMW: I would love to be a part of Arrow and The Flash on the CW! I love superhero shows and being able to be a part of that universe would be amazing!
TWIST: What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given throughout your career, and who was it from?
AMW: "Listen to those around you. What are the first three letters of the word Earth? E-A- R. That shows you to listen." I was given this advice from an A.D. while being interviewed on Good Day DC.
TWIST: Who are some of your acting role models?
AMW: My acting role models are The Rock and Kevin Hart. Their work ethic and how they remain humble even with all of their success are something I look up to.
TWIST: How about real-life role models in your life who you look up to?
AMW: My parents – they keep me humble and motivated! Now that I'm older I'm starting to see what they go through daily; not just with me, but in life in general. I appreciate them more and more every day.
