When it comes to posting selfies on our Snapchats and Instagram accounts, we tend to have two moods: one is #NoFilter, fresh-faced, and fabulous. The other is EVERY FILTER on the face of the planet. Bunny ears! Black and white! Geotagged! Rarely is there an in-between. So when we saw a major trend popping up in the way our favorite celebs have been filtering their own selfies, we took notice.
Stars like Shay Mitchell, Dove Cameron, Debby Ryan, and more have all taken a liking to posting photos with 3D filters. Adding a touch of that dizzying blue and red combo elevates some of their already-fierce photos, and they definitely know it! The band R5 even used the technique to add some effortlessly cool pizazz to the cover art for their recently-debuted EP "New Addictions."
If you were wondering just how to swipe this idea for yourself, there's a ton of ways you can try out the filter. Obviously, you can use Photoshop to get the exact look you want, but there are several photo-editing phone apps on the market that easily do the trick.
The free app Jittergram allows you to add 3D effects to your still photos, as well as create custom GIFs and stop-motion animation. For $1.99, the 3D Camera App lets you take stereoscopic images, or edit photos you already have. 3D Effect Filter Camera App just adds a basic blurred filter over your images.
