Hey TWIST readers,
We recently hung out with the super funny (and super cute) star of Disney XD's hit show Lab Rats, Spencer Boldman! Spencer plays Adam, a bionic teenager with super strength and laser vision who wants to fit in as a normal high schooler. He dished to us about the show, on-set pranks, his co-stars and more. Be sure to click "Read more" for our full, exclusive interview with Spencer, and check out Spencer's shoutout to TWIST readers in the video below. Don't miss Lab Rats Monday nights at 8:30/7:30c on Disney XD!
TWIST: What can we expect to see on some upcoming episodes of Lab Rats?
Spencer: What's so cool about our show and what I like so much about it is that there's so much action, but there's also a mix of really good comedy as well. In the upcoming episodes, we do a lot of crazy stuff. We'll have really great episodes where we go on top secret missions to save the world. Then there are funny episodes where we're trying to go to school and things like that. There's a really great dynamic. There's one episode in particular I'm really excited for people to see. It's when Bree wants to have her own bedroom, so Adam and Chase split the lab down the middle, and we both decorate it the way our characters would. My character is really crazy, so he brings in a horse!
TWIST: Had you been around horses before?
Spencer: A little bit. Horses don't like me that much. I don't know if it's something they sense about me, but I don't nervous or anything. I used to go camping when I was little, and we'd ride horses. They've just never liked me. But I like them.
TWIST: Can you share any behind-the-scenes memories from the set of Lab Rats?
Spencer: Kelli [Berglund] and I always hang out in the production office where the kitchen is because we always eat in there. We always talk, and I'm kind of like her big brother, so I'll give her advice. One day, we'd just got done completing some major pranks because it was the last day of set. Kelli had an idea to wrap Billy [Unger]'s dressing room in foil. We completely wrapped Billy's room in tin foil. He came in the next morning and was really surprised we did that. We've been putting Chex Mix everywhere because TJ [Tyrel Jackson Williams] really loves Chex Mix. We sprinkled Chex Mix around and everyone thought TJ did it. So once we got done wrapping Billy's room in tin foil, we put some Chex Mix outside the door so Billy would think it was TJ. Hal Sparks got me the worst. I love Chick-fil-A, and he got 140 chicken nuggets from Chick-fil-A and silly string, and he stilly stringed my entire dressing room. I had tacks on a board in my dressing room, and he tacked chicken nuggets all over my walls. It was pretty crazy, but I thought it was really funny. He ended up getting me some chicken nuggets and a milk shake from Chick-fil-A too so I could eat it, which was good. We've just been doing a lot of that stuff lately. We've been goofy. TWIST: Adam is definitely the comic relief of the show, but which of your co-stars would you say is the funniest on set?
Spencer: Probably TJ. TJ cracks me up. We do a lot of impressions. I really like doing impressions of other people, and TJ's reactions and facial expressions are some of the funniest I've ever seen.
TWIST: What is your favorite thing to do between scenes?
Spencer: Well, we eat a lot. That's the first thing. I really like talking with the crew and stuff. I hang out with them a lot. With the other cast, we just horse around. Kelli and I have a handshake that we do when we're bored. It's a really long handshake. We don't really get a lot of downtime on set, especially between scenes, but if we're not working, we're usually laying on the couch and talking. We just kind of sit and chill and talk to each other and wish we were asleep, then get up and work some more.
TWIST: It seems like you've gotten really close to the cast since you've started filming.
Spencer: Yeah, absolutely. It's been a lot of fun. I know it's cliché, but when you spend a lot of time with people like we do, they kind of become your family. They mean a lot to me.
TWIST: Pretty much everything that you've done so far has been comedy, so do you have any plans to do any dramas or anything a little different?
Spencer: Absolutely. That's what made me want to be an actor. I think I'm better at drama than I am at comedy. I have fun with comedy, but drama's more challenging. It's always where my passion has been, so that's totally something that I hope to do in the near future.
Man, Spencer and Kelli got Billy good!
Kelli snaps a pic of their handiwork!
