XOXO,
TWIST

TWIST: Can you tell me a little about your sound and the music that you play?
Taylor:
Yeah, it's a little bit all over the place, but I think at its heart it's pop music. I like to write melodies that are memorable and striking. I try to use a lot of acoustic instruments as opposed to electronic sounds because I like the sound more. Well, you know, a lot of it is pop music. And I'm kind of influenced by a lot of hip hop artists and soul artists and folk artists as well.

T: I read that when you were younger you wanted to be an author? How and when did you decide you wanted to move into music?
TB
: Yeah, I think it was when I was young, I loved reading and that's where loving to write came from. I'd want to write short stories and novels. I think the switch came when I was playing guitar and I learned about song writing and how it worked. It kind of added a new element because song writing is a lot like being an author but instead of just words; you also have the music to it, which adds a whole level of being able to send emotions across that's just not words. It happened when I was around 13 or 14 when I realized that it added a layer to writing.

T: When you're writing your songs, where do you draw your inspiration from?
TB:
A lot of times, it comes from mistakes or conflict. I think when things are going really well its hard to be inspired just cause, you know, there's not a long you can say about that expect, "it feels great." Mistakes I've made or conflict whether it's external or internal.

T: I heard that you were under the same management team as Rihanna?
TB:
Yeah same management production team.

T: Is she someone you could see yourself working with?
TB:
Oh yeah, she's great! She has a very unique, cool voice. She has a very unique sound, and style and she's diverse in the music she's done.

T: Have you ever met her?
TB:
Yes I did, once at a video shoot and I embarrassed myself.

T: What happened?
TB:
I met her at the shoot for "What's My Name" with Drake through the production company we share. So I met her and she was so, so nice. But when I get nervous I make jokes and at one point she turned to someone I work with rather often and said, "You're in really good hands here with Evan." And I said, "Well, I don't know about that," as a joke! But it was a bad joke, and she didn't know me so she didn't know I was joking so she just thought I was really, really mean. So that was my celebrity meeting experience with Rihanna.

T: Do you have any upcoming projects that our TWIST readers should know about? I know you mentioned the EP...
TB:
Yeah the EP is a big thing, online, very soon. And in terms of specific things just playing a lot of shows all over and writing and recording more music. So that's what's up next!

T: Thanks for talking to us Taylor!
TB:
Thanks TWIST!
