Hey girls,

TWIST chatted with Ser'darius Blain from the new Footloose! We chatted about dancing, Kenny Wormald, and his new show Jane by Design! Check out our interview below!

Plus, pick up the October/November double issue of TWIST for why we'd love to date Footloose star Kenny Wormald!

Xoxo,
TWIST

TWIST: Could you tell the readers a little bit about Footloose?
Ser'darius: The movie is essentially a remake of the 1984 classic, but the director Craig Brewer did an awesome job of adapting it and making it more current. So it's a very fun movie. It's something the whole family can enjoy. My character Woody is actually the captain of the football team. He's the big man on campus but very humble. He loves to dance, like the other teenagers in the town, but has to do it in secret because it's outlawed. There are some spectacular performances from Kenny, Julianne Hough, Dennis Quaid and Miles Teller.

TWIST: Had you danced before the movie?

Ser'darius: I've always danced among friends, but I've never done it on a professional level, so doing this movie was a challenge because I have rhythm, but I'm not a dancer. Thank God, I had some really great people to learn from: Jamal Sims who choreographed Step Up and Dondraico Johnson, then watching Kenny and Julianne and seeing how comfortable and free they were! I definitely want to do another dance film eventually, but it's inspired me to actually begin taking classes!

TWIST: What was it like working with Kenny and Julianne off the set?

Ser'darius: There was no set drama at all. Every single person involved in this production conducted themselves completely professionally, and at the end of the day it was fun just being with them. We hung out several times in Atlanta. We'd go out to dinner weekly. Julianne is probably one of the nicest, most focused people I've ever met. She's definitely a worker. She's so sweet. At the end of the day, she's like that girl next door, who just so happens to be super hot and on her way to stardom. Kenny danced for everybody and their momma, so this was a new territory for him, tackling acting. I think he did an awesome job adapting from dancer to actor/dancer.

TWIST: Could you tell our readers in just one sentence why they should absolutely go see Footloose?
Ser'darius: You should go see Footloose, because it's good clean fun that everyone can enjoy!

TWIST: Can you tell us a little bit about what to expect from your new show Jane by Design?
Ser'darius: Jane by Design is unique. It's fun. It's happy, but it has touches of drama in there that really tug at your heartstrings. It highlights the life of a sixteen-year-old girl who is in high school, but pretends to be an adult to get a job at a fashion firm in New York. She's living a double life because her friends in high school don't realize that she's daylighting as an adult, and her adult friends don't realize that she's in high school. My character is one of her good friends at work. It'll be out in January. Erica Dasher plays Jane, and she's spectacular!

TWIST: Do you have anything else that you're working on that you want to mention?
Ser'darius: I'm actually working on a single right now. A couple friends and I are producing a short film, which is adapted from a play that we wrote about two years ago. It's called Hearts Gamble, which you can see on heartsgamble.com. Also I'm working alongside Dare to Care, which is a charity that gets money together for children who can't afford lunch money.
