We got the chance to talk to up and coming singer Mateo! He spilled to us about his music, his sound, and the star he's dying to work with! Read our exclusive interview below and tell us what you think.

TWIST: How did this all begin?
Mateo: Music has always been in my family, it's always in the blood and I started playing classical piano when I was young and started singing more and more. And by the time I went to school I jumped in choirs. But I wasn't sure I wanted to do music so I kind of was like, ok ill do business or some other corporate route. But then the music was calling me so I moved to New York briefly for a little bit of time. Then I moved to LA and started doing TV music like some of the background music. Then I started doing the live scene out in LA and performing and started playing the piano more in the songs. Then Myspace happened, got on Myspace started getting features, people started hitting me up saying they like the music. I was signed to Myspace music briefly and then when I got out of that deal I ended up linking up with Krucial and that's how that happened.
TWIST: How would you describe your sound?
Mateo: Its piano based but its organic based music but like has some type of mainstream sounds. I'm still using electronic sounds that you hear in regular pop records but also really like big drums so you think of like Cold Play durms and Kanye drums. It's a mixture of all that but it's also about matters of the hearts and love songs.
TWIST: What's your most personal song on the album?
Mateo: One of my favorites is "Get To Know Me." I didn't mean for it to be a song that people really love and it just became the song.It was really personal to me because as a young artist, you want people to really get to know who you are and understand you and get you. Not try to change you and not try to make you into what they think you should be but like really be yourself and be an individual.
TWIST: Who are your biggest influences?
Mateo: Well of course Alicia Keys, I love Alicia keys, Artists that are piano based, I love that stuff. Cold Play, as I sad before. Kanye West, huge influence.
TWIST: Is there anyone you'd like to work with?
Mateo: Adele, I would love to work with Adele, she's one of my favorites right now. Definitely Kanye West, id love to work with him on some stuff.
