Hey TWIST girlies,
Megan McDonald's super successful Judy Moody book series is now this summer's must-see movie and it comes out today! The story is all about third-grader, Judy Moody (played by Jordana Beatty) and her quest to have the best summer ever, complete with adventures like surfing a wave and riding an elephant! But when all of her friends go out of town for the summer, Judy's plans are ruined - until her Aunt Opal arrives, that is! In honor of the film's opening, we caught up with 11-year-old Garrett Ryan who plays Judy's circus-loving best friend Rocky! TWIST: Tell us about your character in the movie!
Garrett: I play Judy Moody's best friend Rocky. He's a really cool neighborhood kid who likes to hang out with his friends. [His] whole family is really into the circus and they actually have a circus every year. I love magic tricks and stuff like Rocky. I even know how to juggle!
TWIST: Awesome! Did you have a fave scene to film?
Garrett: The circus scene! There were elephants and horses and jugglers and so many things happen! The other thing that was memorable was that the Starlight Children's Foundation brought some kids with disabilities to the set. We did a book signing and they're actually in the crowd in the scene! It brought a smile to their face - and to my face, too!
TWIST: How about when the cameras weren't filming? Did you guys have a lot of fun on set?
Garrett: There were a lot of pranks on set! One time, the guy who does most of the music in the film was napping on a couch. We walked up to him, put a teddy bear in his arms and filmed it! He was like snuggling with a teddy bear!
TWIST: Haha! Sounds fun! How about embarrassing moments from the set? Did you have any?
Garrett: When we weren't filming, all the kids from set came down to my house in Huntington Beach. We went to the beach, went boogie boarding and went to the arcade afterwards. But while we were playing on a trampoline, I jumped and face-planted right on the trampoline! It was really embarrassing!
TWIST: Aw! Okay, spill: any celebrity crushes?
Garrett: I don't now if I have a celebrity crush! But [my ideal girl is] someone that's really into acting like me. Just a really fun-loving girl who's really carefree!
