Hey girls,
Last week, rising pop singer Manika stopped by the TWIST office and gave us a special performance of her single, "Just Can't Let You Go." Check it out in the video above and then eavesdrop on our exclusive Q&A with her. Speak up in the comments and let us know what you think!
TWIST: You've been so busy lately! What have you been up to?
Manika: Well, my single is "Just Can't Let You Go" and I was super excited when I found out that song was going to be the single because it's my favorite one that I've recorded. I was really feeling it with the beat-boxing and I'm just so excited. I'm actually shooting the music video next week!
TWIST: Fun! What's the music video going to be like?
Manika: It's going to be very California. Lots of nice, California shots.
TWIST: So, it's Spring Break time. Have you ever gone on an especially memorable family vacation?
Manika: Yeah! I went to Hawaii with my family. We went to Maui. I just love the beach, especially in Maui where the water is really warm. I love spending time with my family. I have three little brothers.
TWIST: Three younger brothers? Wow. Is it hard being the only girl?
Manika: Kinda because I always wanted a little sister to give makeovers to. My brothers would be like, "Get away from me!" I always wanted a little sister to do my nails with or gossip with. But I love my brothers so much.
TWIST: How old were you when you started pursuing music?
Manika: I honestly don't know because I've been singing for as long as I can remember. I was always performing, even in preschool when we would have our school performances. Once my family got instruments into the house, I naturally took to those too. I started playing piano first, but now I play guitar...I ended up graduating school a year early to pursue music.
TWIST: What is something you're learning now that can't be taught in school?
Manika: Just having the experience to be in the studio with amazing people is teaching me so much. It's kind of like if you throw someone into a pool who doesn't know how to swim - they have to learn how to swim. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world right now. Frank DiLeo, the producer I'm working with now, has worked with Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga. It's so much fun.
TWIST: What has been the highlight of your year?
Manika: Recording "Just Can't Let You Go" was so much fun. Also, recently I had a photo shoot for the single cover, which was also really fun.
