TWIST: Hey Madeline!
Madeline: Hey TWIST!
TWIST: Your new movie Flipped is coming out soon. Can you tell us a little bit about that?
Madeline: It is kind of a kids' love story, set in the sixties. My character Juli Baker likes this boy Bryce and he doesn't like her, and it's all about their relationship up until they're 13.
TWIST: Did you relate to your character at all?
Madeline: I did. She has brothers, and she was never really the popular girl in school -- she wasn't really a nerd either, she was just kind of in between.
TWIST: In Flipped, Juli falls in love with Bryce right when she meets him. Do you think that's possible in real life?
Madeline: I think when you're younger you have crushes and you immediately, you know, have a crush. I don't know if it's actually love at first sight, but it definitely, kids have crushes. Especially girls. Girls are usually the more fall harder kind of person, you know, they kind of know what they want. And boys when they're younger, they just want to play outside, and play with their toys, and girls are like when are you going to catch up?
TWIST: Also in the movie, Juli likes Bryce, but he doesn't feel the same way at first. Have you ever been in that situation?
Madeline: I kind of liked a boy and he didn't like me and I tried to have the same approach as Juli, like to be a tomboy, and I would race him all the time but I would always beat him, and I guess boys don't like it when you beat them at stuff.
TWIST: So do you think that's the best way to deal with it, to get to know the person?
Madeline: I guess you get to know them, especially when you're older. Like sometimes a lot of kids you have a crush on and stuff but then once you get to know them as a person, you realize that you don't really like them at all. Like sort of how it happens in Flipped --Juli loves Bryce, she's like obsessed with him, and she's like a nuisance or whatever, but then as she slowly gets to know him, and sees the things that he does to her, really realizes what kind of person he is, she doesn't really like him anymore.
TWIST: So what was your best memory from filming the movie?
Madeline: The scene that was hardest to film was probably the scene where he has to kiss me or try to kiss me anyway, we never actually kissed, just to be clear, (laughs) but that was probably the hardest. We would laugh and giggle because he'd be like leaning in all silly looking and I would laugh, and then he would laugh and...it was really funny. And you know another thing that was really, really weird was when, you know, I have to sniff his hair, that was really weird and awkward.
TWIST: Did you hang out with your co-stars?
Madeline: Yeah, we always did! We hung out. There were so many extras and so many kids in that movie like all the time so we'd always hang out with all the kids and play cards. It was really fun. And the clothes were awesome too, like the weird sixties clothes, and we had like the sixties cars and like everything was just sixties, it was so cool.
TWIST: Yeah! So, do you have any celebrity crushes right now?
Madeline: Celebrity crushes--I really think Taylor Lautner is really cute. And...uh, Justin Bieber. I think he's really cute.
TWIST: Do you like his songs too?
Madeline: Yeah, I love his songs, I put in his CD's and I'm like singing his songs in the car and my brother is like "Take it out, take it out, take it out!"
TWIST: Thanks Madeline!
MC: Thank you!
