Hey Girls,
TWIST just sat down with hot new singer Matisse! We talked about everything from her latest music to her fave must-have fashion items. This girl is definitely loaded with talent, style and loads of Bieber fever! Her soon-to-be-hit single Better Than Her is available now on iTunes.
Tell us what you think girls- Do you love the song? How excited are you to hear more from Matisse?
TTYL,
Intern Sara
TWIST: Hey Matisse! Tell us a little bit about your music?
MATISSE: Well, I would say I'm part of the iPod generation, so it's not really one genre of music, but definitely pop/ mainstream. My first single is a real pop and dance song. But I have a little bit of everything on the album. There's pop, a little bit of rock, R&B, fusion.
TWIST: What would you say is your favorite song?
MATISSE: It changes all the time. I'm not done with the album yet, but at the moment, my favorite song would have to be "Sexy Baby." It's a duet. It's my favorite song to perform-- its fun, upbeat and a rock/pop type song. I'm not sure whom I'm doing it with yet I think it's going to be Cobra Starship, which should be fun. But it's a really fun anthem.
TWIST: What would you say is your favorite type of music to sing, the more up beat/techno styles or more ballad, melody type? You have both types on your album, which do you prefer?
MATISSE: I would say, in terms of singing, I would prefer to sing the ballads. I grew up listening to Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion, mainly ballad singers. So I definitely prefer to sing more of a ballad because I'm 'singing' more. But I like performing the more up-beat stuff; I love the energy of the crowd when they get into it.
TWIST: Who are you listening to right now?
MATISSE: I really love Rhianna, Kings of Leon, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber.
TWIST: We love your style, what's one must-have fashion item you cant leave home with out?
MATISSE: A scarf! I pretty much always have a scarf, to protect my voice, and it's a pretty good fashion item, also.
TWIST: Have you ever felt insecure?
MATISSE: I definitely have, like every girl. I am a twin and my sister has always been smaller than me and I've always compared my body to hers. But at this point, I just try not to focus on that. The way my body looks is not the most important thing in the world. Obviously it's part of my job, but you can't obsess over it. You are who you are, you just have to own it, be healthy and not worry about it too much. Be confident in who you are and be comfortable.
TWIST: What helped you reach that point of confidence?
MATISSE: I don't know. I really like people like Marilyn Monroe, and that type of body. I think it's womanly. Everyone's different and I think people embrace Kelly Clarkson, who rocks her body and I just think it's not all about your looks. We aren't always going to like the way we look now, so that shouldn't be the focus.
TWIST: Thanks so much Matisse!
MATISSE: Thank you TWIST!
