Twist: Hey Kicking Daisies! So tell me how you guys would describe your sound as a band?
Carly: I think our sound is really different because we have guitar solos and three-part harmonies and it's a lot more mature than what you would normally hear from a kid band. But it's like pop-rock with an edge.
Twist: What is the favorite song that you guys have recorded so far?
Carly: My favorite song? Probably "Breathing".
Caitlin: I really liked "Cards" because I liked the reggae-ness of it. The guitars and synthesizers on it sound amazing.
Duran: I had fun on every one. On "Masquerade" he just let me like dig in and push out my feelings for that. "The Planet" I got to rap on. Everything was just awesome.
Ben: My favorite song to record was probably "These Days". In the beginning there's a bunch of shiny stuff and then they all thought it was a keyboard but it was a backwards guitar. That's all guitar, backwards.
Twist: I read that Paramore is one of your influences. So who else are you all influenced by?
Carly: I'm kind of mostly into the alternative, pop-punk stuff. But Duran's gotten me into Radiohead and Coldplay and The Smashing Pumpkins.
Caitlin: I'm really into Lady Gaga right now, Billy Talent, AFI. Anything really that's synth and cool.
Duran: I've been heavily influenced by 90's music. I love Radiohead, I love Coldplay. I was into Nirvana for one straight year.
Ben: If I had to listen to two things for the rest of my life it would be metal and techno.
Twist: You're all around the same age so what's your relationships like with each other? You guys seem very close knit.
Carly: Even on days when we're not rehearsing we'll call each other to hang out and have a sleepover together and we'll end up staying up all night.
Twist: Who would you say you are in the group?
Caitlin: I'm the mom in the group. Duran is the troublemaker.
Duran: Carly is the innocent one. Ben's hilarious!
Carly: He's so funny!
Twist: Can you tell us about a time when Ben was super funny and made everyone laugh?
Duran: We had this van, we sold it but it had writing all over it. There was this one door that no one could ever shut, it was just impossible to close. Everybody's trying different things and as we're trying to go Ben's like, "All right, I got it." Steps out of the van, shuts the door
Carly: And goes, "Oh wait, I have to be inside the car."
Duran: We're like, "No way!" So he opens the door and gets back in the car. It was hilarious!
Twist: That's so funny! Have you guys had any other embarrassing moments lately?
Caitlin: We had a really, really important showcase for a really important record guy, L.A. Reid. He's sitting there and in the beginning of "Masquerade" my stick goes flying in the air. I'm playing with one hand, I reach down, grab the other one, within seconds later, it happens again. I'm like, "Oh my gosh!" So I'm freaking out but I just acted like nothing happened. When I walked off stage he shook my hand. He used to play [drums] with Babyface so he knows that drummers drop their sticks.
Twist: Thanks Kicking Daisies!
