Hot Q: Will you see The Vampire's Assistant this weekend?

Jessica.jpg

Hey Twist Girls!

With New Moon and The Vampire Diaries, it seems like our bloodthirsty craving for vampires is growing day-by-day! And more vamps are headed your way! Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant hits the big screens today, so we talked to the star, Jessica Carlson, to get the scoop! She even spills on smooching her costar! Listen in on our convo after the jump :)

Spill it, girls! Will you go catch The Vampire's Assistant in theaters this weekend?

XOXO,
Jen the Intern

TWIST: Tell us about the movie and your character, Rebecca!
JC: The Vampire's Assistant is this action-adventure movie. It's fast-paced. It's about a boy named Darren Shan leading this generic life and he's bored. But things really change, and he becomes a vampire. I play Rebecca, and she's this really independent, strong girl who helps Darren learn about the Cirque du Freak. They have a little bit of romance going on between them, which was cool! Ok, on the first day of filming, there was a kiss scene and so Chris Massoglia, who plays Darren, we didn't really know each other, so we kind of had to be like 'Nice to meet you! And now we have to kiss!' We didn't get to rehearse it, and I thought movie kisses were all structured and rehearsed, but the director wanted us to do it on our first take in front of 100 people - even our moms were there! It was hilarious - we were both popping mints and then, we had to do it over and over again!

TWIST: Ok, smooching on the first day is fun! Anymore flirting on set?
JC: Oh! (laughs) Well, secretly I thought that everybody was really cute! I didn't notice any flirting chemistry, but I think that Patrick Fugit - he's Snake Boy -- was really cool, and now I have a really huge crush on him! We had this whole secret handshake, and we would talk in Spanish. But I didn't see any flirting!

TWIST: What's your favorite scene in the whole movie?
JC: There's so many! I had to do all these stunts. So the really fun stunts I had to wear a harness and learn how to walk on tightrope wire and do all these tricks! But one of my favorite scenes that I was in, Chris' character, Darren, needed blood because he was in the middle of a battle, so my character Rebecca decides to give him blood. It was a really intense scene, and it felt really good.

TWIST: What was the vibe like on set? What sort of things would you guys do when you weren't filming?
JC: The set was so cool because it was a circus camp ground, so there were always amazing trailers for the different characters, like Snake Boy, Gertha Teeth, and Rhamus Twobellies. It was incredible! It was like a playground but it was indoors and in New Orleans! We'd go exploring and check out all the different props and pieces. On the weekends, there were so many things to do in New Orleans! The food was so good!

TWIST: Did you guys have any cast rituals?
JC: A lot of the people who were "freaks" had to come in for 5 hours and get their "freak" suits on. Pat had these contacts on that were like little slits because they're like snake eyes! He couldn't see his peripheral vision, so people would stand right next to him and he wouldn't see and he would turn around!

TWIST: What do you think teens will like most about this film?
JC: I think it's very original! It's not going to be repetitive and it'll be something new! It also gives a new spin on vampires! I think it's very creative -- there's action, it's scary and it's funny at the same time. I'm really excited about it! My friends all want to see it with me, so I'm going to have to see it 20 times!!

TWIST: You said it's a different take on vampires -- tell us how!
JC: It's not so much like Twilight where it's all about the romance, but I think it'll attract a larger audience in the sense that it's a coming-of-age movie. It's just really cool; I'm really excited about it! It's about a boy, who has to make the decision if he wants to become a vampire and leave his normal life. It's really original - it's based on a book and a lot of readers are really anticipating the movie to come out, so we'll see what they have to say about it.

TWIST: What was it like to work with Josh Hutcherson?
JC: It was really cool! We actually didn't have any scenes together, so while we were filming we didn't get to know each other. But while we were doing the poster shoot for the movie theaters, we actually got to know each other really well! He's really cool and we saw the midnight screening of The Incredible Hulk and got to play music together -- that was really fun. It was just a really great cast and I miss it so much!

TWIST: I have to ask, are you a Twilight fan?
JC: I am!

TWIST: So, Team Edward or Team Jacob?
JC: I think I'm Team Edward in the books because I'm like Bella and Edward are going to get together. But in the movie, I think Jacob is pretty hot.

TWIST: There's a little crush on Taylor Lautner there?
JC: (laughs) Yeah!

TWIST: What winter trend are you looking forward to?
JC: I'm really looking forward to boots! I actually have these almost like astronaut boots - at first I thought they were so weird, but I was secretly jealous of them, but now I have them and they're so cool! I can walk through the snow and not slip everywhere!

TWIST: What are your best beauty tips?
JC: I always have to put on some makeup. When I'm feeling down, it just makes me feel good! I put on some mascara, some blush, some eye shadow and it just makes me feel good sometimes! I don't really wear makeup at home - but even when I'm not going somewhere, it just makes me feel good when I put on a little bit of makeup. Also, I saw this on America's Next Top Model, the girls wear this headband, and so their hair isn't all over their face. So I put on a cloth headband on at night, and my hair doesn't get in my face.

TWIST: What are your favorite drug store beauty products?
JC: Ooh, I love that new CoverGirl - it's like this little red pen, you just pretty much put them on your lips for color. Hold on, it's in my bag, let me get it! It's Outlast Lipstain and it's awesome! I'm going to put it on right now, while I'm walking down the street in Times Square!

Finally customer service came on the phone and I began to explain the problem with their product- the atomizer stopped working after 2 weeks of use. After explaining to me that they would not send a replacement part after I sent the broken one in (at my expense) I asked to speak with a manager.
