Hey TWIST readers!
Have you heard of Care Bears on Fire? They are a new girl band who've spent the summer hanging out with JB and playing shows with Honor Society and Nat & Alex. The band has a punk pop sound and their songs are all about staying true to yourself, and what happens if you don't!
The band members (Izzy, 13, Sophie, 14 and Jena, 15) stopped by the TWIST office to tell us about their music, what they've learned from Honor Society, and how JB treats their fans. They also performed their single "Everybody Else." If you want to hear more, check out the other video where they perform the song, "Barbie, Eat a Sandwich" at the bottom of the post!
All About The Muisic
Twist: How did you form your band and how do you know each other?
Sophie: Izzy and I have been going to school together since kindergarten. We started playing our instruments at the same time, when I was 8 and she was 9.
Jena: And I've been in the band since October. Sophie's mom used to be in a band with my guitar teacher, so that's how I met them.
Twist: So do you all write the songs together or does one person write them all?
Sophie: We try and collaborate.
Jena: I write a lot of the music, but we work together with the lyrics.
Twist: Where do you get your ideas from?
Sophie: Our experiences in school and in the band. It's sort of like commentating on everything that has happened. Our songs really are the soundtrack to our lives. They represent everything we have gone through.
Izzy: It's really cool to hear a song and remember the moment it represents. We also write about more global issues, like government issues and things like that.
Sophie: Politics and the world around us.
Twist: What kind of message do you want people to take away from your songs?
Jena: I think our single "Everybody Else" really sums it up well. It's about being your own person. We have a lot of songs where it's about what happens when you're not your own person.
Twist: So you've been touring all summer with Nat & Alex and Honor Society. What have you learned on tour that you can't learn in school?
Sophie: Endurance, physically and mentally. It's hard playing shows every night and traveling all the time.
Dishing on Honor Society and JB:
Twist: What have you learned from Honor Society?
Sophie: They have a great command over their audience. They tell their audience to dance and then the audience dances.
Izzy: Also their level of professionalism is quite impressive. They are surrounded by so many people but can still keep their cool and stay relatively sane.
Twist: And you girls also met the Jonas Brothers.
Izzy: Oh, we did meet the Jonas Brothers in Philly with the Honor Society. They were great!
Twist: Now, they are another band that can keep their cool around a ton of craziness.
Jena: That must be such an insane thing, but they are really nice to their fans. I was sort of surprised because I can see how hard it would be not to get annoyed when people are constantly asking for pictures and screaming, but they sign stuff for their fans and they act really calm and nice. They watched the Honor Society set and then they quietly went on stage with them.
Izzy: We've never heard screaming that loud!
Jena: As soon as they got back stage after the show was over, they were just attacked! It was just people everywhere. Even the police officers were like, "Can I get your autograph?" It's such an insane lifestyle.
Izzy: They just seem so genuine and grounded. They're really good people.
